G Postal telegram CLIVE received, confirming telephone message received at 1730hrs.

Vehicle Strength: 4 Morris Portee, 5 Commers, 1 Light tank.
3/9/39 Technical Officer evacuated 5 Commer trucks and 4 Morris Portee trucks from Lex Garage to HQ.
1650 - Message from London District announcing that war has broken out with Germany.
4 Panther MCs taken on strength.
5/9/39 2000 - Urgent telegram received from 2/Genlondiv saying no unit to move out of London to billets until they have received orders from HQ 2/Genlon div.
6/9/39 1050 - Staff Captain from 2nd London Division rang up the CO and gave authority for 4th CLY to move out of London to billets.
1200 - 1700hrs 4 CLY moved into billets at St. Margaret's School, Bushy, Herts.
8/9/39 2Lt Ross left to attend Gas course at Porton Down.
Furniture from 44 Grove End stored at Major Eden's house, 52 Onslow Gardens SW7.
10/9/39 1103 - Convoy of 3 trucks under 2Lt Scratchley left for MINEHEAD.
Light tank handed over to 3 CLY.
11/9/39 1035 - Sgt Wortman (C Sqn) left for London to take up post as Officer's Mess Sgt with GHQ 1st Echelon.
2Lts Scott and Smith gazetted (Sept 2nd).
12/9/39 2Lt EGS Smallwood gazetted (Sept 2nd).
13/9/39 Regt moved to WASHFORD district.
2Lt IB Aird gazetted (Sept 2nd).
15/9/39 1920 - Brigade Major rang up to mount a guard of 2 NCOs and 6 men at the SAAD WATCHET.
2130 - 2Lt Martin Smith (Oi/c SAAD guard) rang up and said that he had been told by the Camp Commandant that the above guard was unnecessary and that the Commandant would write to the Brigadier to this effect.
18/9/39 2Lt MacColl gazetted (Sept 2nd).
2030 - 2Lt Smallwood arrived.
20/9/39 2100 - 2Lt IB Aird and Lt R Aird arrived.
25/9/39 Regiment moved to WOOLACOMBE.

8/10/39 Two medium tanks taken on strength.
20/10/39 Nine training cars taken on strength from Military Purchasing Officer No. 2 Dept Exeter.
27/10/39 Three training cars taken on strength from Exeter.
21/10/39 Lt R Aird Gazetted (31st Aug).
28/10/39 Lt The Viscount Cranley, Lt RW Reeve, 2Lt F Sutton and 2Lt LC Aldridge promoted to Acting Captain wef 15/9/39 and granted pay 6/10/39.
